It is not clear if this species is native; specimens from the Congo basin formerly believed to be O. macrochir probably are O. mweruensis (see Ref. 2, 33478). Specimens from "Zambezi race" (=O. macrochir; "Mweru race"=O. mweruensis) introduced to Congo DR around 1948, and translocated to at least the Kivu area (Ref. 55074). Reported from the Lufira (Ref. 2970). Introduced into the Aruwimi (Ref. 106290).
